SINGAPORE (AFP) - [tag]Singapore[/tag] Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s son has been reprimanded for emailing the defence minister to complain about a fellow officer, a report said Friday.
Second Lieutenant Li Hongyi should have aired his grievances using proper military channels, a statement from the ministry of defence said according to the Straits Times.
In the email, which was sent last month and later appeared on the Internet, the premier’s son alleged that another officer from his unit had been absent without leave (AWOL).
He said that he had reported the matter to the officer’s superiors but no disciplinary action had been taken.
Li Hongyi is the third of Premier Lee’s four children.
“To maintain organisational discipline, all SAF (Singapore Armed Forces) servicemen with complaints or grievances should take them up through proper channels for redress, to ensure due process and to protect confidential information,” the defence ministry said.
It added however that it had also carried out an investigation following Li Hongyi’s complaint and the officers concerned have been disciplined.
We hope to get more traffic soon!
